The  Arcadia D3 6% Forest Reptile Lamp (T8) is a fluorescent lamp that, in addition to visible light, also emits UV radiation that is invisible to the human eye .  Reptiles and amphibians need the UV radiation present  to stay healthy. The amount of UV radiation depends on the type of animal and their natural habitat.

The  UVA  light provides a natural looking environment, recognition of conspecifics, other animals and food. The present  UVB  rays ensure an absorption of  vitamin D3  in the body (via  synthesis  of the skin). D3 ensures that calcium is absorbed during digestion. By not exposing the animals to UVB radiation, a shortage of essential nutrients can arise and can lead to diseases, deformities or premature death due to housing errors. 

These fluorescent lamps have a diameter of 26 mm and are easy to install in a special T8 fixture or with a fluorescent ballast. Fluorescent lamps are available in various sizes, so that larger surfaces in the terrarium or paludarium can be illuminated.

To increase the  light intensity  and/or UV output, it is advisable to use reflectors and/or to place several T8 lamps together. Fluorescent lamps hardly give off any heat, which is why it is necessary to combine these lamps with a heat lamp or heat spot to create a sun spot.

Lifespan
The Arcadia D3 6% Forest Reptile Lamp (T8) usually has a long burning time. The UV output is limited, which is why we recommend replacing the lamp every 9 months.
